Shirley’s Grove

Shirley’s Grove was donated by Thomas Burton Williams to the community in 1967, and is managed and maintained as an ideal place to walk dogs, while also providing a home to a combination of native and specimen trees for the benefit of wildlife. The Grove is accessed via two gates on Mopla Road, and an entrance on Coleford Road, and there is a waste bin just outside the Mopla Road gate furthest from Castleford Hill.

Miss Cicely Amy Shirley was one of the original Trustees, and also served as a parish councillor. She died in 2015 at the age of 103, in the house on Mopla Road in which she was born. She was a keen gardener, and planted many of the trees in the grove herself.
